It has been long that popularizing virtual reality sports such as screen golf, which is unaffected by weather, is accessible and can be enjoyed at a low cost. As derivative markets are formed with various sports such as baseball, cycling and soccer, the total size of virtual reality sports market is expected to continue to grow. Patent technologies used in virtual reality sports provide advanced IT technologies such as AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) by using HMD (Head Mounted Displays). These technologies are mainly used to increase visual immersion among users. Also, virtual tennis using artificial intelligence technology stands out. This makes the users feel like they are playing a real game by controlling the launcher and the visual system according to users' propensity and ability based on what is learned by sensing the users' motion.
"Through the 'virtual reality sports room', which is expanded and operated by elementary schools, it has become easily accessible from low grade. And market demand is expected to expand by raising awareness of 'work and life balance'. To preempt the related markets, it is necessary to develop technologies that can take virtual reality sports to another level by converging with other high-tech fields." said Kim Yong-jung, KIPO (Korean Intellectual Property Office) official.
